Santa Caterina Valfurva is situated at the bottom of the Ortles-Cevedale massif, protagonist of the ''White War'' that took place in this area between the 1915 and 1918. Already known for the Thermal Spa is now called the last ''white paradise'' due to the long glaciers lying in the high passes, and the huge amount of winter snowfalls.
The Hotel is right in front of the Compagnoni ski run, surrounded by ancient coniferous forests and a few hundred meters from the Cross Country ski track; is the best starting point for all your daily outdoor activities. Santa Caterina Valfurva, already well known for the technicals and scenic ski slopes. The period between winter and spring is the favorite time for alpinists and ski mountaineers which are going in the Forni Valley and in the valleys nearby climbing all the surrounding mountains like the well known Gran Zebru and the 13 peaks trail. In late spring the Gavia Pass, already known since 1988 with the bike race ''Giro d'Italia'', opens the gates letting bikers ride all the way up to 2700 mt, getting an amazing 360° view of the surrounding peaks. Summer comes and the last patches of snow let space for the green grasslands, and where before there was a ski slope now cows, sheeps and goats are enjoying the sun for the rest of the summer. Now everyone makes his way to the mountain, escaping from the hot and busy jungle of the big cities, renewing their friendship with nature.
Santa Caterina offers many cross country ski tracks from 5 to 10 km for those looking for training hard; the track is also used by the National Cross Country Team and shorters tracks between 2 and 3 km for beginners. For more info check out the official web page Sci di Fondo S. Caterina Valfurva.
